Born on April 29, 1916 in Linnich, Germany, Fred moved to the United States after 7 years in German and Dutch Concentration Camps. After World War II he moved to New York City and married Ruth M. Goldstein after only 4 dates over a 3 week period. Ruth predeceased Fred in Scottsdale Arizona after 57 years of marriage. Fred worked as a car mechanic in New York, owned a bakery outside Washington DC but many people will remember Fred as the face of the York Valley Inn Motel (York, PA) for over 25 years. While in York, Fred was a prominent member of the area's Tourism Board and initiated building of the York County Visitors Center. In addition to his service to the community he produced a full length movie highlighting the areas many resources. Fred and Ruth loved to travel around the world and opened York Valley Travel to share the joy of travel and adventure with others. In addition to travel Fred enjoyed golf, tennis and a spirited game of Pinochle. After retiring and relocating to Scottsdale, Arizona he started a new hobby of making pictures with wood collected from all over the world. His pictures were created solely from precisely hand-cut wood and delicately placed on a wooden surface creating many different and unique colors and textures. His portfolio contains many works and subjects including caricatures of famous people, African art, Southwestern themes, musical productions and family portraits. Fred spent hours creating these beautiful works of art solely for others to enjoy. Fred is survived by two loving sons, Gary Goldstein and his wife Sue, of York, Pennsylvania and Gregg Goldstein and his wife Marilyn, of Bristol, Tennessee. He is also survived by two granddaughters, Nicole and Elena. One of Fred's life lessons is borrowed from the Pennsylvania Dutch-"You grow old too soon and smart too late".
